Wedding visions in an enchanting variety of colors
The ravishing ambience of the Huize Frankendael country house in Amsterdam was the backdrop for this extraordinary wedding world. The turquoise walls and medieval charm of this property inspired floral designer Katya Hutter to create a versatile and colorful editorial. Together with a great team, she implemented her wedding visions with great attention to detail, her sense of aesthetics and her talent for enchanting floral arrangements.

By Katya Hutter: “A dreamy art atmosphere in a charismatic 17th-century Amsterdam country house. Huize Frankendael is the last country house in Amsterdam. Built in the 17th century, the house was used by noble citizens to enjoy nature with friends. The city has made the house its own, but little has changed in the way it is enjoyed. The house, garden and kitchen are open every day of the year so that guests can enjoy nature, gastronomy and culture. It is one of the most beautiful places in Amsterdam for a Sunday afternoon walk.
When I first saw this place – those beautiful turquoise walls draped with fine, colorful mid-17th century mustard parlors, the charming fireplaces, the huge windows, and the stunning conservatory with abundant natural light pouring in through the nearly 360-degree panoramic windows, overlooking a gorgeous century-old magnolia tree (which was in full bloom at the time) and a manicured French garden – I fell in love at first sight. I thought I would like to do a creative project here with my floral designs and beautiful fine art style models. The atmosphere of this place is very special, peaceful, as if time has stopped there, you look outside, at the beautiful French garden and feel as if you have stepped back two centuries. The location was the inspiration for this shoot, and I think it shows in the photos.
I wanted the floral arrangements to be airy and almost float in the very bright room. Light yellow was my main choice for the color scheme to complement the turquoise walls. Bright yellow is also the Pantone color of the year, so the choice seemed perfect to me. I combined pearly white, pale yellow and yellow shades of one of the most beautiful spring flowers – Japanese ranunculus and ranunculus romance. Thanks to one of the best Dutch growers, Monarch Flowers, I had access to the most beautiful flowers in the world. The garden style is one of my favorites. I thought he was the best fit for this project. Although my idea for an arrangement was modern – to build a gradient in an analogous color scheme – it was soft and pleasing to the eyes, very romantic for the wedding design. The turquoise walls went well with the flowers, and together these colors created a fairytale effect.
A styled photo shoot is always a big production, as big or even bigger than a real wedding. Vendors and creatives come together in a large team with the goal of making beautiful photos and/or a film to inspire their clients and unleash their talents. I myself worked in the photography industry as a producer and fashion stylist for 14 years before discovering my great passion for floral design. When I have a strong creative idea, I often find that all the necessary pieces of the puzzle quickly fall into place. For example, sometime in August 2020, I met a fantastic art photographer from Germany, Erdinc from Olive Wedding. When I saw his work, I knew – with his talent and good taste, we can create beautiful works in this special space. Erdinc was thrilled with my mood board and was eager to do the project together. His participation was a great incentive for the project.
Enthused, I continued my search for other creative gems. The Japanese cinematographer Eori Wakakuwa, whom I have known for several years and whose talent I greatly appreciate, agreed to shoot the film. He is known for his dreamy vintage style fashion films, great sensibility and fine style. In my opinion, he did a great job on the short film for this project.
Our models Sanne and Lucas are a real couple, they are both very beautiful young people and have this harmonious and dreamy look that perfectly fits the atmosphere of the location. I was very fortunate to work with the amazing wedding planner Emilva from Santé Weddings on the production. Together with her assistant she created the chic table decoration. Your choice of the beautiful pearlized tablecloth and antique props added just the right amount of character to the room. My flower arrangements and a bridal bouquet merged into it. An ornament of the table decoration was a calligraphy set and beautiful silk ribbons by Dutch artist Naomi van Pen to Paper. They emphasized the romantic atmosphere.
Emilva invited one of the most talented and well-known Dutch wedding designers and couturiers, Edwin Oudshoorn, to participate in the project. Fortunately, he was also enthusiastic and let us choose some of the most eye-catching dresses from his collection. We opted for a dress with cut-outs in long and short lengths and almost open back – a memorable bridal look was completed with antique jewelry. For the groom, an Amsterdam store “New Tailor” has put together a “state of the art” wedding suit.
When our makeup artist Elen Cherednikova and her assistant Uliana Matkovska finished the hair styling, all the pieces of the puzzle fell into place for this fairytale photo shoot.”
