Wedding at the Pyramids of Giza
There are wedding venues that hardly need any introduction. Set amid the desert landscape just outside Cairo, the Pyramids of Giza provided an extraordinary backdrop for Vivek and Monica’s wedding celebration and for the stunning photos taken by photographer Naman Verma.
The couple, who live in London, had known each other since their college days. In addition to their shared love of culture and travel, they were also united by a special connection to Egypt, as Vivek had spent part of his professional career in Cairo.
After their Hindu wedding at the Dahab Island Palace, the highlight of the celebrations took place at what is arguably one of the most impressive locations in the world. Vivek and Monica were among the few couples who received special permission to celebrate their wedding right next to the Pyramids of Giza.
Against this monumental backdrop, Monica wore a wedding dress by Dolly J, while Vivek opted for a custom-tailored suit by Huntsman & Sons of Savile Row. Naman Verma captured the couple amidst the vast desert landscape. The resulting wedding photos were brought to life by the fascinating contrast between the couple’s festive attire, the warm colors of the desert, and the millennia-old architecture.
The dinner also reflected the unique surroundings. A temporary venue was created specifically for the celebration, with its shades of sand and clay blending harmoniously into the desert landscape. Long tables were decorated with dried flowers in warm shades of sand, terracotta, and orange. The natural colors mirrored the surroundings and let the pyramids themselves take center stage.
As darkness fell, the scene changed completely once again. The illuminated pyramids rose behind the wedding party, while dinner was served at the foot of the Sphinx.
At midnight, 180 biodegradable lanterns rose into the desert sky to the tune of “What a Wonderful World,” bringing to a close a wedding celebration whose setting could hardly have been more extraordinary.
